SSL Certificates for Chiropractors?

SSL Certificates for Chiropractors?

ssl certificate chiropractic website

There's a good chance you have received a phone call or email trying to scare you about having a chiropractic SSL certificate for your website. The salesmen probably made you feel as though your website will fall off the internet and the world will end if you don't have one.

Google is even starting to send out emails to website owners letting them know that their site is not “secure” and advises them to take action.

Does Your Chiropractic Website Need A SSL Certificate?

So the question is, should you covert your website over to HTTPS? The answer to that is a little more complicated then YES or NO. Right now Google is the only search engine that is pushing this HTTPS idea and being the biggest they are going to have the biggest impact on the direction of the internet. Will Google succeed in this quest of transforming they internet over to HTTPS? I think they will because there is no real reason for all the other search engines not to follow.

Should you do it just because Google wants you to?  NO, but sometimes it’s better to swim with the current instead of fighting it. I believe so little in being forced to make this change that we have not converted our own website over to HTTPS yet.  Some day we will have to, but that day isn’t today.

The value in switching is not stronger than the risk in switching for us right now.  What is right for us might not be right for you, so I will go over the pros and cons to converting over to HTTPS along with the costs to make the switch.

You stop getting phone calls and emails about it.

Your site is perceived to be more secure by the public.

Google will not give you the small “Not Secure” tag in the address bar.

There is a very small ranking benefit. Did I mention “very” small?

If other search engines decide to require this you will be all set.

You now have the added cost of a certificate to deal with each year.

If you let the certificate expire Google will show a big warning before going to your website.

You must reclaim everything in Webmaster Tools because Google considers HTTPS as a new domain, everything from the HTTP site will need to be redirected.

You will lose any social shares that you might have gotten.

When the switch is done right you can still lose some Google trust for a short period.

If the transition is not done right you can drop in rank.

Cost To Switch To HTTPS:

If you are a client of Inception Websites there is no cost to getting the certificate.  There is however a decent amount of work to do all the redirects that have to be done.

When go from your original HTTP to HTTPS we have to adjust all your SEO factors to coincide with it.  Failure to do this can result in a drop in Google Rank.  Currently our cost is $150 to complete this process for a client.
